By Caren Phillips, Founder of Ravenna Assisted Living

I’m happy to share some exciting news with our Ravenna community: I have been invited to join the Business Leadership Council for Family Friendly New Mexico, an organization whose mission aligns closely with the values that shaped Ravenna from the very beginning.

For those who may not be familiar, Family Friendly New Mexico works to create a statewide culture where family-friendly workplace policies are understood, encouraged, and celebrated. Their vision is simple and powerful: a New Mexico where every worker has the support they need to care for their families, participate fully in their jobs, and thrive in their communities.

That mission resonates deeply with me, not only as a business owner, but as someone who believes that the well-being of our staff directly impacts the well-being of our residents.

Why This Matters to Ravenna

At Ravenna Assisted Living, we talk often about what it means to create a home-like environment. That doesn’t just apply to our residents; it applies to our team as well. A supportive workplace, one that acknowledges the realities of care-giving, personal wellness, and family life, creates stronger staff, stronger relationships, and a stronger community.

Being recognized by Family Friendly New Mexico as a Family-Friendly Workplace this year was already a meaningful affirmation of our commitment. Joining the Board now gives me the opportunity to share what we’ve learned at Ravenna while also learning from businesses across the state who are striving to do the same.

What I Hope to Bring to This Role

My work at Ravenna has shown me just how essential it is that caregivers and support staff feel valued, respected, and supported. These are the people who show up every day to care for our elders with patience, kindness, and heart. Their ability to balance work and family life is not a luxury, it is essential.

On the Council, I hope to represent the care-giving sector, advocate for policies that strengthen our workforce, and help more businesses understand that family-friendly practices are not only good for families, they’re good for operations, retention, and community impact.

Gratitude for Our Ravenna Community

I want to extend heartfelt thanks to our residents, their families, and especially our incredible team at Ravenna. Your dedication and trust make our community what it is. This opportunity with Family Friendly New Mexico is a reflection of the work we do together every day.

Thank you for celebrating this milestone with me. I look forward to the good work ahead.

Warmly,
Caren Phillips
